Canadian author and food connoisseur. D. Gray, née Allen, born in Upper Cape, New Brunswick, in 1908. Lived for many years in Calgary where she worked after World War II with the Citizenship Council teaching immigrant women to cook with Canadian food. This activity sparked an interest in international cuisine. Published a weekly food column in the Globe and Mail beginning in 1957, later becoming food editor, 1960-1972. Her cookbook Fare Exchange was awarded a silver medal at the 1964 World Culinary Olympics in Frankfurt, Germany. Awarded a Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal in 1977. Died in 1990.
