Biographical history

The Alberta Chapter of the Germans from Russia Heritage Society was established in 1981, for both educational and social purposes The aim of the society was "to bring together people who are interested in discovering the common history unique to Germans from Russia, and to preserve the many elements of their rich heritage". Frank Senger was the first President and Betty Lang the secretary. The society kept a genealogical research library which housed extensive family histories and other records. One of the ongoing projects of society members George Dorscher and Dennis Seher was to record arrivals to Canada of Germans from Russia by both sea and land. In 1984 the Alberta Chapter hosted the GRHS International Convention in Calgary, the first time the conference had been held in Canada. The society folded in 2007.
