Biographical history

In 1907 Nick Gallelli, a recent immigrant from Italy, began his construction business in Calgary, Alberta with a pick, shovel, wheelbarrow and horse. Together with his partner, Harry Cicconi, and later his sons Nado, Harry, Bill and Aldo, he built his business into one of the largest construction companies in western Canada. The company eventually became three companies: Gallelli Holdings Limited which looked after administration and maintenance of vehicles for the other two; Gallelli Construction Materials Limited which operated solely within the City of Calgary and produced a high percentage of the material used for municipal sidewalk and roadway projects; and Gallelli and Sons Limited which operated in Alberta and British Columbia primarily in highway and road construction, bridge overpasses and dam projects. The companies were eventually taken over by Canada Cement Lafarge Limited.
