Typescript, typescript with holograph revisions, typescript (carbon copy) and holograph. Research notes, rough draft fragments and good and clean copy drafts, as well as Atlantic Advocate galleys for some early columns. Galleys contain holograph notes from John Braddock, Atlantic Advocate editor. Columns filed chronologically with notes, fragments and preliminary drafts clipped behind typescript (carbon copy) draft of published version of each column. Manuscript of September 1974 column, an excerpt from Campobello : the other island, filed with Campobello manuscripts; file contains repository photocopy of column manuscript for that date. Columns contain book reviews of Ian Adams's The poverty wall (1970 June), Norman Levine's From a seaside town (1970 October) and Pierre Berton's Hollywood's Canada (1976 February). May 1974 column pays tribute to Mrs. Charlie Shaw, with whom A. Nowlan boarded in Hartland, N.B., and discusses poem Husband and wife, dedicated to Mr. and Mrs. C. Shaw; December 1974 column pays tribute to George Frederick Clarke. Versos of several pages contain fragments of Will ye let the mummers in?, The first game of the finals and letter to Sylvia Pride. Manuscripts untitled and undated; repository annotations of published title and date of publication included with each manuscript. Published titles of individual columns not indexed. Original title From my notebook changed in March 1972 to Alden Nowlan's notebook. The Atlantic Advocate column published monthly from April 1970 to July 1983. Includes references to the following: From my notebook; Alden Nowlan's notebook; Review of Pierre Berton's Hollywood's Canada; Review of Norman Levine's From a seaside town; Review of Ian Adams's The poverty wall; Husband and wife; Campobello : the outer island; Will ye let the mummers in? : short story; The first game of the finals.
