Biografie

The Department of Germanic, Slavic and East Asian Studies began as the subject Modern Languages in the Faculty of Arts and Science. It became the Department of Modern Languages in 1962. The name changed in 1969 to the Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies. In 1977, the department moved to the newly formed Faculty of Humanities. It became the Department of Germanic, Slavic and East Asian Studies in 1992.
In 2010, it became part of the newly created Faculty of Arts when the Faculty of Humanities ceased to exist. In July 2013, the Departments of Linguistics and Germanic, Slavic and East Asian Studies merged to become the Department of Linguistics, Languages and Cultures in the Faculty of Arts.
