Name of creator
D. Ralph Crichton, 1876-1963, was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia and came to the Canadian west in the 1890s. He went to the Yukon in 1899 and served as federal Crown Timber Agent for six years. In 1905 he moved first to Sequim, Washington, USA and then to Crossfield, Alberta. He established a real estate business in Calgary in 1907 and served as an alderman from 1912 to 1915. In 1916 he was appointed weed inspector and later rental agent for the city. Crichton retired in 1931 and in 1940 moved near Seattle, Washington where he operated a hotel. After the war he was involved in the real estate business in Vancouver and Victoria. He retired in South Burnaby, British Columbia. He and his wife had three children, Gwendolyn Patricia (Redden), 1904-1969, James Harold, 1906-1990, and Gordon Ralph, 1909-1973.
Frank Swanberg of Calgary purchased this fonds from a dealer in British Columbia.
