Biographical history

During World War One, the Coppock family lived in Castor Alberta and received correspondence from several soldiers active in the Canadian Expeditionary Force. The family included Mrs. Margaret Coppock, her husband Thomas Coppock, and their two children Margaret and Harold.

Biographical history

Joseph William Bainbridge was born on November 13, 1888, in Northhampton, England. At the time of his enlistment in the Canadian Expeditionary Force, 5th University Company Bainbridge was living in Montreal, Canada and studying theology at McGill. He served with the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry.

Biographical history

Harold Long was born in Weymouth, England on September 24, 1884. At the outbreak of WWI Long was in Alberta, Canada - likely as a medical student at the University of Alberta. He enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force in Calgary on July 9, 1915 and served with the 4th Canadian Field Ambulance, and at the No. 1 Canadian General Hospital. Following the war Long settled in Naicam, Saskatchewan where he farmed. Long died in 1956 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Material was kept by mother of donor and then passed on to donor after her mother's death.

Consists predominantly of letters written by two soldiers to members of the Coppock family household in Castor, Alberta during WWI.
