Biographical history

George B. Cook, 1842-1925, was born in Bathhurst, New Brunswick and was married in Stratford, Ontario to Mary Ann Scott, 1851-1950, who was born in Prescott, Ontario. In 1884 George and Mary moved to Calgary where he worked on a Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) work train completing the railroad. He was also a carpenter and painter. They had six children including Mary Leila (Bishop), 1889-?, Jessie Irene (Finch), 1888-?, Elspeth Edna, 1886-?, Walter Stuart, Charles Reginald, ?-1904, Allan Bertrand "Bert", and George, ?-1877. Elspeth, 1886-[after 1978], was born in Calgary and attended Normal School in Regina, Saskatchewan. She was a teacher in Calgary and Carstairs, Alberta from 1905 to 1951. The family was active in the Baptist church and long time members of the Southern Alberta Old Timers Association.

The fonds consists of photographs of a picnic group at Bow Island and the First Baptist Church Bible study group, newsclippings and a biography of the Cook family compiled by Elspeth, and letters about the family's history.
