Biographical history

Clarence Umscheid, 1891-1960, was born in Precept, Nebraska, USA and lived in Oregon with his family after 1900. In 1915 he came to Canada to join the Ernest Burk family who were neighbours in Oregon. In 1920 he married Jessie Jane Burk, 1900-1994, who was born in Baker City, Oregon, and they farmed near Milo, Alberta. Clarence was active in community affairs including the Oddfellows, Lions Club, the school board and in farm organizations. Jessie was an avid amateur photographer. The Umscheids had five children, James Leo, 1922-2005, Robert C., John M., Lois (Shafer, later Berglund) and Lawrence.
