        History

        Robert Eldo Campbell, 1871-1965, was born at Smith Falls, Ontario, and was educated as a school teacher in Barrie and Regina. He taught in Saskatchewan and in 1895 in Banff, Alberta. He then became a Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) guide and packer in the Lake Louise, Alberta and Field, British Columbia areas. From 1911-1921 he was Conservative Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Alberta's Rocky Mountain constituency. He served as a captain for two years in France during First World War with the 192nd Battalion and the Canadian Forestry Corps. In 1896 he married Estella May "Stella" Crozier, 1877-1965, and they had two children, Gladys Henrietta, 1899-1983, and Dan E., ?-1975. The family moved to a Wembley ranch in 1914, and Bob also had a guide business in the Peace River district. In 1942 he and Stella retired to Victoria, and ten years later they moved to Calgary where he wrote articles for the Albertan in about 1959-1960. His reminiscences were published as I Would Do It Again / Robert Campbell. - Toronto : Ryerson, 1959. He died holidaying in Cairo, Egypt. Gladys was born in Banff, and by 1939 had moved to Calgary. She was corresponding secretary of Wesley United Church Good Cheer Club and later its president. She and her husband, Donald D. McKillop, ?-1975, had two children, Jean (Michols) and Donna (MacKenzie). She moved to Red Deer, Alberta in 1977, and died on holiday in Africa.
