Fonds F0231 - Bow North Rural Electrification Association fonds

To meet the post-war demand of rural areas for electrical power, the government of Alberta encouraged the formation of local rural electrification associations under the Cooperative Associations Act. The Bow North Rural Electrification Association Ltd. was incorporated in 1946 with its head office in Dalemead, Alberta. In 1948 it signed an agreement with Farm Electric Services Ltd. and Calgary Power Ltd. for the construction of a farm electrical distributions system and the supply of electricity. It served the Bennett, Carseland, Chestermere Lake, Dalemead, Indus, Janet, Langdon and Strangmuir districts. The agreement remained in effect until the association was sold to Calgary Power in 1976.
