Biografie
Emile Marie Bosmans (also spelled Bossman), 1860-1929, was born in Antwerp, Belgium and served in the Belgian army before emigrating to Canada. He homesteaded near Bittern Lake, Alberta ca. 1889. He and his wife, Minnie Louise William, ?-1948, moved to SW 30-48-18-W4 in 1900 and Minnie applied for this homestead in 1902. Emile soon built a trading post and stopping place for settlers. In 1903 he built a larger building with room for accommodation, a store, and a post office. He became post master, and subsequently ran a feed mill, a cheese factory, and sold farm machinery. In 1907 he built a modern store and used the old one as a warehouse. In that year he also donated land to build a railroad station, and later the townsite of Roundhill was purchased from part of his land.
He and Minnie had five children, Eva (LaBelle), 1897-?, Georges Albert, 1899-1917, Stella Margaret (Summers), 1902-1932, Albert George, and Stanley Emilio, 1907- . Stanley married the daughter of Irving Zilbert Hills and Signe Emilia Spokkeli, 1886-?, who were married in 1907. Irving ran the Camrose Drug Co., a drug and stationery store, from at least 1920-1929. Signe was the first teacher in Camrose, ca. 1905-1907. She attended high school in Edmonton and Normal School in Regina in 1904. Her parents, John Evenson Spokkeli and Juri Scafse, came to Canada from Norway sometime before 1896 and were living in Duhamel, Alberta by 1900.
