The Betty Mitchell Awards, named for a theatrical pioneer, were started in Calgary, Alberta in 1998 to celebrate and honour outstanding achievment in Calgary's professional theatre community. The organization operates with a nominating committee of 12 anonymous jurors from a range of disciplines who select nominees in 16 categories. The group also confers three adjudicated awards: Greg Bond Memorial Award, Dean Ott / Debbie Boult award, and the Duval Lang award.
