Name of creator
Ian McClelland was born in Trail, British Columbia in 1942 and graduated with the first class in Photographic Technology from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in 1965. He founded the Colorfast Corporation in 1975 which became the largest independent photofinisher in western Canada.
After selling the company in 1993 he entered politics as the Reform Party Member of Parliament for the Edmonton Southwest district; he was re-elected in 1997. McClelland served as critic for Public Service Renewal (1995-1996), International Trade (1994), Science, Research and Development (1994), Transport (1994), Industry (1994-1995), and Human Resources Development (1994-1997). He also served as the Deputy Speaker (1997-2000), the first member of the Official Opposition to hold this post.
In 2000, McClelland stepped down from federal politics to run in the Province of Alberta as a Progressive Conservative. He held the riding of Edmonton-Rutherford from 2001-2004 until he was defeated by Rick Miller.
