Notice biographique
Archibald Gordon, 1882-ca. 1967, was born in Aberdeen, Scotland and came to Canada in 1907. He studied for the Baptist ministry, receiving a BA and BTh from Brandon College in 1913. Rose Annie Gertrude Lines, 1892-1981, was born in Ilford, Essex, England and moved with her family to High River, Alberta around 1910. She met Archibald while he was a student minister there and they were married in 1913. Soon after, they set out for India, where they worked as missionaries for nearly 40 years. Archibald became a church administrator and principal of a theological college in southern India, while Rose administered schools and hostels. They had four children, Elsie (Penner), Hypatia Marie "Pat" (Wood), 1917- , Bernard (possibly died in infancy), and Jean, ?-1935. Archibald received a BD in 1947 from the University of Toronto, and an honorary doctorate in 1956 from McMaster University. Rose was awarded the Kaiser-i-Hind Medal for her work in support of troops stationed in India during the Second World War. Following their retirement from missionary work, the Gordons became active in First Baptist Church in Calgary, where Archibald became Minister of Visitation.
