The Alberta Motor Transport Association was established in 1939 to promote the interests of the trucking industry. The association operates with a full-time staff and numerous volunteer committees. It publishes the annual Alberta Shippers Guide (now Truxbook) giving information on shipping companies and rates. A rival organization, the Motor Carriers Association of Alberta, amalgamated with the AMTA in 1965. The name of the association was changed to the Alberta Trucking Association in 1976 and back to the Alberta Motor Transport Association about 2000.
