Administrative history
The Alberta Music Teachers' Association was formed in Edmonton in 1932, to promote and support instruction by qualified music teachers, to organize musical events, and to entertain visiting performers and adjudicators. It was incorporated in 1934 and added "Registered" to its name in 1947. The Calgary Branch was formed in 1935 with P.L. Newcombe as its first president. Also in 1935, ARMTA helped to found the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers' Associations. The Calgary Branch supports a Young Artists Series, Master Class Workshops and student scholarships.
