Authority recordIn 1983, several Calgary, Alberta women founded the first YWCA alumnae association in Canada, bringing together former staff, board members and volunteers who wanted to offer continuing support as ambassadors for the YWCA of Calgary in the larger community. Over the years the alumnae have assisted the Young Women's Christian Association with several key projects, including the collection of furniture donations for YWCA Mary Dover House supportive housing program and YWCA Sheriff King Home emergency shelter, fundraising for the building improvement fund and a bursary for single mothers to attend university. The group disbanded in 2016.
Helen Carlyle, 1899-1988, was born in Madison, Wisconsin, USA, the daughter of William L. Carlyle, manager of the EP Ranch from 1919 to 1942. Helen received a degree in animal husbandry at Kansas State University and a masters degree in genetics at the University of California Berkeley. She moved to Alberta ca. 1920s, and in 1928 married Charles Yule, 1888-1958, a cattle breeder, importer, and the secretary manager of the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede. They had two sons, David, and William C. "Bill". Helen was active in many community activities and associations.
