Andrew Everett Porter, 1855-1940, received his medical degree from Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia. In 1878 he settled at Prince Albert, becoming the first civilian physician to practice in the North-West Territories. During the First World War he served as medical officer for the 218th Regiment. Following the war, he operated a sanatorium for tubercular ex-soldiers in southern Alberta. He retired to Edmonton and was an investor in the coal mining industry.

The fonds consists of A.E. Porter’s certificates of membership in the Masonic Lodge (1877, 1888), certificate to practice medicine in Yukon Territory (1898), certificate to practice pharmacy (1921) and certificate of membership in the Southern Alberta Pioneers’ and Old Timers’ Association (1923).
